This renowned 150 acre Rioja estate, adjacent to the Marqués de Murrieta property in the heart of the Ebro River valley, has been growing grapes in the vicinity of Logrono since 1840. The low yielding vineyards are maintained without addition of any artificial herbicides or pesticides and irrigation is not practiced. All of the Vargas wines are estate-bottled at the current bodega, which has been outfitted with the most modern technical vinification equipment in 1990, and only Reserva or Gran Reserva-level wines are made. Aged in new American, French and Russian oak barrels, these premium wines are always bottled unfiltered. The current Marqués is the fourth generation to own the bodega.
