Rioja
Bordered by Navarre, Castile & Leon, and Aragon, Rioja extends along the Ebro River in northern Spain. The region is split into two areas, Rioja Alta which has a great deal of rainfall and a mild climate, and Rioja Baja which is hotter and more arid. Mountains protect the region from the elements which creates a climate excellent for growing grapes. Rioja wines have a character of their own and in some areas the wine is still fermented in whole bunch and foot treading style. The Tempranillo grape predominates in this region.
